About EdCitation
EdCitation is made by EdWorkspace for students who write from sources: to find them, cite them, know they are real, and hand in a paper that does what its assignment asked.
What it stands on
| The publisher’s record | A reference is looked up, not written. Authors, year, journal and pages come from the record the publisher filed, and when no record exists you are told so. |
|---|---|
| Verification before style | A source is checked to be real, and not retracted, before it is formatted. “Could not check” is never shown as “not found”. |
| It never writes your paper | Nothing here writes, rewrites or paraphrases a student’s work. It finds sources, sets references, and says where a paper stands against what was asked. |
| What you upload is yours | The tools on this site keep nothing you give them. An account keeps only what you choose to keep: your lists, your books, your papers. |

How the guides are written and checked
| Who writes them | The EdCitation editorial team. There is no invented author on this site: no pen name, no stock photograph, no credential nobody holds. When a named person checks a guide, that person is real and the guide says who they are. |
|---|---|
| Where the rules come from | The style's own publisher, not another website that copied it: the APA Style site, the MLA Style Center, the Chicago Manual of Style, Cite Them Right as universities publish it, the IEEE guide and the NLM's Citing Medicine. |
| Where the numbers come from | The study itself, read before it is cited, and named in the sentence with its year. Every guide ends with its references, each with a link, so you can go to the source and check us. |
| What we do when we cannot confirm something | We say so in the guide. A manual behind a paywall, a rule that universities word differently: the guide names where its version comes from instead of stating it flatly. |
| How they are kept right | Each guide carries the date it was last checked. Style guides change editions and universities change their house rules, so a guide is re-checked when its source changes, and at least once a year. |
| What we will not do | Invent a statistic, a study, a quotation, a testimonial or a university's policy. Promise a grade, or promise that a detector will not flag your writing. Write any part of your paper. |
The standard the guides are held to is written down and public: read the guides, or the quick answers. If you find a mistake in one, tell us and we will fix it and say when we did.
